Healing A Generation

Undoing The Mental Health Damage Caused By The Pandemic Lockdowns And Anti-Black Racism Among Young Africans And Caribbean's In The UK

This free event intends to highlight the problematic state of mental health among young black people in the country, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the social isolations and lockdowns that followed as well as the devastating pressures of having to negotiate life and sanity in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in May 2020.

It is no secret that the young black part of the Christian community is suffering and, consequently, the whole Christian community suffers. We want to explore ways to be helpful to them. If you have leaders in your communities who may benefit from sitting around a zoom table with like-minded folk on this issue, please, invite them along

According to research posted on science direct "Since the lockdown, 30.3% had poor mental health, and 10.8% had self-harmed. Young people identifying as Black/Black-British ethnicity had the highest increased odds of experiencing poor mental health."

In this conversation we will look will hear from Imisi Adefala a young Christian Nigerian, living in the UK will be sharing what impact the pandemic, lockdown and the anti-Black racism had on him and how he believes Church leaders can help young people heal and recover.

We will also be hearing from Pastor Davis Kunihira, from Uganda, who is the senior pastor of 'A Radical Church' (ARC), in Sydenham UK. He will be sharing his experience on pastoring young Africans and Caribbean's during the pandemic, lockdowns, and anti-Black racism and how he thinks Church leaders can help them heal and recover.

Finally, we have mental health practitioner, Dana Grant of 'Emotional Development Mentoring' (EDM) a Caribbean Talk Therapist, practising in the UK will share with us the issues she is discovering as a result of the events in 2020 and 2021 and how she believes Church leaders, mission agencies and Christians at large can help young Africans and Caribbean's heal and recover.

This event is open to all Church leaders, Christian agencies, Missionaries, and every believer that wants to see the next generation healed and reconciled back to God.
