This event aims to explore issues of gender and sexuality, and how it affects our mission families, particularly those returning to live in the UK.
For some families returning to the UK (especially those returning from more conservative societies), learning to live in our very secular, liberal culture will provide real challenges in this area. For others, the needs they have will be more personal, and knowing how and where to find help will be crucial.
So, what are the main issues that our mission families will be facing on their return? What are the pastoral and theological issues they (and we) need to consider? What guidance can we give to parents and children on how to engage appropriately and what to avoid? And how can we guide those who are seeking to manage these issues in cross-cultural settings right now?
This day event will seek to cover, amongst other things:
- Helping us ensure - as organisations and churches - that we are equipped to help our missionary parents and their children returning to the UK to deal well with the challenges of living in our secular liberal culture
- Helping us all to balance a Biblical and theological position with the challenges of the prevailing secular liberal culture in the UK
- Finding ways to best help and signpost those who are personally impacted by LGBT+ and identity issues, and/or matters of gender and sexuality– whether they are returning to the UK or are still out in the field
We look forward to hearing from Grace Watson and Stuart Parker (True Freedom Trust).
