Foster Care initiative in Bangladesh: Pray for Global Care’s partners in Bangladesh, who are developing a Foster Care initiative for vulnerable children, due to launch in early 2021. In line with best practice in child development they are attempting to develop a local family-based alternative to residential institutions for children who are unable to live with their birth families. It’s a new venture for them, and unusual in Bangladesh. Pray for wisdom, perseverance, and God’s blessing, as they seek to learn and model what is best for these children.
Mental health: Pray for the mental health of vulnerable children affected by the extended lockdown in Guatemala. Many children in the slums of Guatemala City have been trapped in small tin shacks in temperatures around 30 degrees, 24/7 with nothing to do. Our local partners report a deterioration in the mental health of many children, despite their best efforts to support them in creative ways. Please pray for a restoration of joy for these children, and the ability to get out, move around, and access education.
Pray for Ethiopia: Pray for peace in Ethiopia. Global Care’s Ethiopian partners, the Addis Kidan Baptist Church Welfare and Development Association, who deliver a range of initiatives supporting the education and welfare of vulnerable children, write: “Please pray for our country, we have experienced political unrest and violence in different times, we want the global community to pray for long lasting and sustainable peace in this country. Pray that God will help us and the people we serve, and keep us healthy and protected from coronavirus.”
Access to necessities: Pray for an end to the underinvestment and neglect of families from ethnic minority states, pray for better access to infrastructure and necessities such as electricity and clean water for families supported through our Myanmar project.
Distributing support to vulnerable families: Give thanks for our Zambian partners who provide education and welfare support in impoverished rural communities. Pray for them as they distribute support to vulnerable families during the current crisis.
From rural poverty or slavery to Mumbai slums: Pray for the Dalit children and families who fled rural poverty or modern slavery to seek a better life in the slums of Mumbai, India, who continue to experience discrimination, injustice and crushing poverty. Pray for safety and encouragement for Global Care’s local Christian partners who are seeking to advocate for Dalit children, and under increasing pressure to give up in the context of growing Hindu nationalism and a corresponding hardening of attitudes and increase in caste-based discrimination.
Street Kids Direct working with Guatemala's street children: Pray for street children in Guatemala benefiting from a pioneering mentoring scheme by Global Care’s local partners, Street Kids Direct. Pray for strength and wisdom for the children to turn away from the temptations of crime, drugs and gang culture, to pursue education and to make better life choices, despite very challenging family circumstances for many. Pray for an end to multi-generational cycles of poverty and traumatic experiences, and for the light of Christ to penetrate their darkness. @GlobalCare
School clubs provide safety for Syrian children: Pray for the children attending Global Care’s School Clubs in Damascus, Syria. All the children attending have undergone traumatic experiences during the war, including the death of at least one parent. They are still witnessing violence, and living in fear and poverty, displaced from their hometowns and familiar communities. Pray they will benefit from the therapeutic interventions delivered at the School Clubs, alongside basic literacy and numeracy, and continue to experience the Clubs as a place of safety in an unpredictable and dangerous world.
