Oxford Centre for Mission Studies
OCMS is a unique community of committed Christian scholars and practitioners. With more than 30 nations represented, our family is truly global and also ecumenical as we have many church traditions among us, with a common commitment to bring the good news of our Lord to transform individuals, families, communities, societies and nations.
Our scholars have persuasively argued in various researches that Christianity should come out of the four church walls to the deepest areas of the society. Our understanding of God’s mission goes far beyond evangelism and church planting. We engage with issues such as the church’s role in poverty, political conflicts, community development, education, women, human trafficking, AIDS/HIV, and many more. This is one of a few places in the world where such cutting edge mission thinking is further sharpened.
In its 25 years of ministry, OCMS has brought these topics into the mission thinking with academiccredibility. More importantly, it has shown that we can discuss these topics without being politically left or theologically liberal. And this new trend of mission has been shaped by the Majority World Christian scholars.
