A migrant shelter received a visit from a team of Logos Hope volunteers, who joined an outreach alongside local staff from Gideons International. They spent time with the men staying at the centre, and offered sight tests and free reading glasses to those who needed them. The men at the shelter were mainly between 25 and 50 years old, with the majority having come from Colombia and Latin America. After having their eyes tested, the men had smiles on their faces when they were finally able to see more clearly. The ship brought donations of books to help occupy the men's stay in the shelter, for which they expressed their gratitude. Pray that these men will receive spiritual sight as the Logos Hope team ministers to them.
Over a year ago, Casa de Luz, a church in Volcán, Panama, developed a vision called the Food Project. The idea was to feed the poor families in town, especially the children. Several of these families in Volcán live in shack houses made of sheet-metal and cardboard boxes. The Food Project operated for a year with one small wood stove. Fresh food was always donated, but the need was far greater than the resources, so the church decided to pause the project and work on expansion. Now the Food Project is becoming the Food Kitchen, with the goal to feed 200 kids daily. Besides food, the children will also be offered help with their homework and free-time activities. For adults, the ministry plans to set up a rehab programme and vocational courses. Please pray for God’s guidance and presence in this project.
Panama has been called a rainbow of races, and the Christian Church calls it the 10/40 Window of America. That being because within Panama can be found five of the largest religions in the world with their respective temples and communities: Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Catholics, and Jews. Other large religious groups include: the Greek Orthodox Church, the Bahai, the Masons, and neo-African groups. Outreach to each group poses a different challenge. Pray for the ministries of churches and organisations as they seek to demonstrate the love of God and share the gospel in this richly diverse land.
