Purpose of the job
To ensure that Scripture Union's national missional events are strategically developed in a way that represents and sets best practice, are sustainable and adequately resourced and facilitates Scripture Union's mission and vision being achieved. It ensures that all events comply with legal and regulatory requirements. The postholder will ensure that best practice advice is communicated to staff colleagues and volunteers.
Key Duties
Develop and implement a holidays and missions strategy to support the Revealing Jesus mission framework.
Ensure the smooth and safe running of Scripture Union’s national holidays and missions, complying with all relevant internal and external requirements (including legal and safeguarding requirements).
Oversee the budget for holidays and missions, developing a funding model that enables the events to be sustainable and consistent with Scripture Union’s mission and vision.
To manage a staff team to enable the effective operation of events (approx. 5 staff) and ensure all staff and event volunteers are adequately trained.
Develop and implement a strategic approach to the recruitment, training and retention of volunteers and event leaders.
Oversee the development of the Young Leaders’ programme and act as the Relationship Manager for national event leaders.
Ensure line-managed staff and holiday and event volunteers are adequately trained and supported with regard to their safeguarding and other relevant compliance responsibilities.
To cascade best practice to managers responsible for the running of local events and local volunteer recruitment and retention.
In collaboration with members of the Mission Development team ensure that a training programme is developed and delivered for their area of responsibility.
To work with the Safeguarding Manager to ensure best safeguarding practice on all of Scripture Union's events, and to handle safeguarding cases as required.
Be able to travel to some event locations, volunteers and staff located throughout England and Wales including some weekend and time away for residential meetings.
