Description
Help to reach the unreached as a Trustee of Reach Beyond UK
In our world today there are over 3.1 billion people with no gospel witness...
Reach Beyond shares the good news among genuinely unreached people through our media, healthcare and community development ministries, serving as the voice and hands of Jesus.
We want unreached people everywhere to hear about Jesus, to see him in action, and to learn how to follow him.
For 93 years, Christians from all walks of life have taken the gospel beyond their comfort zone by praying for and supporting Reach Beyond mission workers and ministry partners who have stepped out into new mission frontiers.
Will you join in this vital work of taking the gospel to those who don’t yet know Jesus?
The role of Trustee
Every organisation needs new people to bring fresh insight. Our Board of Trustees takes responsibility for strategic decisions for the charity’s Christian ministries. They ensure that the organisation remains charitable in its activities, complies with the law and encourages effectiveness in the ministries undertaken.
Because of the essential Christian context of the role, there is an occupational requirement for Reach Beyond Trustees to be practising Christians. They should also be UK-based and fully supportive of Reach Beyond’s ethos and statement of faith.
We are looking for people who can meet the following standards:
1. Spiritual qualifications
- Active Member of a local Church
- Active and experienced in Christian service with an interest in world mission
- A knowledge of Biblical principles and a willingness to apply them
- Spiritually mature and stable
- Personal integrity
- Exhibiting the highest standards in dealing with the charity’s operation
2. Skills
Experience and ability in one or more of the following areas would be useful: management, media, healthcare, community development, world mission, public relations, marketing, fundraising, accounting, charity law, education, legal issues. We also welcome those with generalist experience.
3. Commitment
- Regular attendance at Board meetings (normally four times a year). This can be on weekday evenings via Zoom, or occasional Saturdays in person in Bradford.
- Occasional ‘extraordinary’ Board meetings, perhaps by means of video calls or email.
- As necessary, from time to time, membership of candidate interviewing panels.
4. Legal requirements
Trustees must comply with both company and charity law. In particular those who have been disqualified by a court from acting as a company director and undischarged bankrupts are not allowed to be Trustees.
Trustees must ensure the timely submission of accounts/annual returns, advice of change of Board members or secretaries and notice of change of registered office.
What are the benefits of being a Trustee?
Many Trustees take an interest in a specific Reach Beyond missionary or project in order to encourage and bring news for prayer and praise to Board meetings. This is not only a personal encouragement but can lead to other practical involvement in mission activity for the Trustee.
Sometimes Trustees are involved in promoting the ministries of Reach Beyond, either by taking church meetings or arranging meetings for others to lead. Coming alongside supporters of Reach Beyond gives Trustees the opportunity to thank them directly for their support.
Charity Trustees are not normally able to be paid for their participation in the organisation’s management, although out-of-pocket expenses may be reimbursed.
Many Trustees will confirm that their involvement has been much more than just a business involvement. They have also become part of a passionate team of people using their God-given skills to grow His Kingdom through voice and hands ministries.
If you are interested in joining the Board of Reach Beyond, send your CV with a covering email explaining your relevant skills and experience, and why you think you’d be a good fit for the charity. Send this to the CEO Colin Lowther at this address: clowther@reachbeyond.org
Or for an informal discussion about the role, please call Colin on 01274 721810.
There is no closing date for applications. Each application is considered when received and considered against the current skills gaps of the Board of Trustees. Trustees are selected to utilise their specific skills and experience.
Prospective candidates are interviewed by the existing Trustees and the CEO and are selected by nomination and a vote by the Board.
