Overview
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an international, nonprofit organisation that uses aviation and technology to share the love of Jesus Christ and to help communities in remote areas around the world.
We operate in Papua New Guinea, which is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Only 18 percent of its population live in urban centres. The majority live in very remote areas with little or no transportation options. MAF PNG is one of our biggest programmes where we support local infrastructure and logistics surrounding missions. From life-saving medical evacuations to transporting essential supplies. MAF transforms the lives of the people of this country physically and spiritually.
MAF is seeking a dedicated and experienced Residential House Managers to join the team managing a boarding-type home located at Ukarumpa. This is a vital role for our Programme as you will be providing interim parental care for children between the ages of 12 to 17 years whose parents work in various locations serving in PNG.
This role is a critical vacancy for the PNG Programme which we urgently need filled. Priority processing and consideration given to the right candidates.
Responsibilities
The Residential House Manager/s will be responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable living environment for our student boarders who call the residential house, their home. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as a passion for serving and caring for young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing a safe and supportive environment.
- Seeking to care for each child by monitoring welfare, safeguarding, and any other relevant tasks.
- Driving children to and from evening and other activities as needed.
- Providing advice, encouragement, and emotional support to children of various ages and nationalities facing the adjustments of cross-cultural situations and living away from parents.
- Organising the day-to-day activities involved in operating and maintaining the home, ensuring smooth operation and that the house is in good clean condition meeting the safety standards.
- Ensuring students maintain their living space in a tidy and clean state at all times and complete assigned responsibilities in shared living spaces (including common rooms, bathrooms, toilets and kitchen).
- Ensuring high standards of safeguarding practices are practiced and that students are treated with dignity and respect.
- Monitoring student welfare and behaviour and responding to concerns of parents/guardians, keeping them regularly informed about matters (including positive behaviour and achievements) affecting the welfare of their child(ren).
- Creating menus and obtaining food supplies using the most efficient source with limited resources and minimizing waste.
- Preparing and providing three meals a day plus snacks.
- Managing, directing, and working alongside national staff in-house.
- Evaluating and reporting any maintenance needs and ensuring that the home is kept in good condition.
- Supervising and supporting regular homework and study activities.
- Assisting with the delivery of a regular programme of weekend and night activities to enrich the personal, social, and cultural development of students.
- Attending meeting, discussions and other activities concerning the students as required.

Job related role essentials:
- Cross Cultural experience
- Full clean driving license in both manual and automatic transmission
- The experience to work with, care for and supervise young people (12-18 years old)
- Understanding of students' needs and cultural differences with outstanding communication skills

- Able to cope with the physical demands of the job
- Attention to detail and a high level of organisation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
