Visiting the OM Logos Hope
Recently I had the privilege of visiting the OM Logos Hope with several other CEOs from across the Global Connections network while the ship is docked in London and got a glimpse into their remarkable ministry. With a crew of between 300–400 people, it is clear everyone needs to know their role and work well together if the ship is to function. Considering that, I reflected on a few aspects of the way their crew approach life and work together, that might be relevant for us as a broader mission community?
Clarity of calling - Every crew member knows why they are there & what their role is. Whether they are navigating the bridge, serving meals, maintaining the engines, or welcoming visitors, each person understands how their contribution fits into the wider purpose of the ship.
Interdependence - On a ship, no one can operate in isolation. The engineers rely on the deck crew; the deck crew rely on the stewards; the stewards rely on the logistics team. Each role is essential, but none is sufficient on its own.
Adaptability - Life at sea requires constant adjustment — to weather, to schedules, to unexpected challenges. The crew need to learn to respond quickly, communicate clearly, and support one another when plans change.
Shared discipleship - The Logos Hope is not simply a workplace; it is a community learning to follow Christ together. Their rhythms of prayer, worship, service, and mutual care shape the culture of the ship.
As we journey together as a network, I trust these insights from the ship can serve as an encouragement / challenge to us all. We are part of something larger than ourselves. We each have a role to play. We are called to move forward together, trusting that Christ is present in every season and every challenge.
