The STM Commitment to Best Practice
The replacement for the previous Code of Best Practice
The Global Connections Short-Term Mission Code of Best Practice (CBP) was developed in 1999, to offer those running short-term mission programmes the opportunity to review, clarify and improve their practice in operating these programmes. It was designed to apply equally to UK and overseas situations, both same-culture and cross-cultural.
For reasons you can read more about here the Code of Best Practice has been reviewed and updated to become the STM Commitment to Best Practice. This is not a change for change’s sake. The ultimate goal is to establish a model that enables agencies and churches to demonstrate what they do well and be transparent about where they are working to improve. The hope is that this will give future short-term mission participants the opportunity to make informed decisions about which church, agency or organisation to engage with based on what’s most important to them.
The CtBP Values
There are seven core values underpinning the STM Commitment to Best Practice. These values are the foundation on which the CtBP is built, so it is important that those applying for accreditation understand what they are. Click here to find out more about the values.
The CtBP standards
To achieve CtBP accreditation, the applicant is required to provide an organisational response to each of the 40 statements listed in the STM CtBP standards document. This is not a test with success based on providing the correct answer; it is about showing your potential future STM participants how you run your programmes.
How to apply
If you would like to apply for CtBP accreditation, please read the CtBP values document (see link above), download a copy of the STM CtBP standards (see link above) and familiarise yourself with the CtBP application process.
If you have any questions, please email Andy Law who will respond at the earliest opportunity.
