Event Details
Workplace disputes are rarely just legal problems. They are relational, emotional, and often deeply uncomfortable - particularly when the parties involved share a Christian faith.
In recent years, many Christian leaders, HR professionals, trustees, and employers have found themselves navigating an increasing number of employment-related disputes within a rapidly evolving legal landscape. With enhanced employee protections, heightened regulatory scrutiny, and a growing readiness to litigate, organisations are under real pressure to respond decisively, lawfully, and fairly.
However, when both sides of a dispute are Christians (whether within a church, charity, or faith-informed organisation) the default route of litigation can sit uneasily with Biblical principles of reconciliation, wisdom, stewardship, and peace-making.
This workshop creates space to explore that tension honestly and practically.
Drawing on employment law frameworks, real-world HR and litigation experience, and Biblical principles, the session will examine when litigation may be necessary, when it may be avoidable, and how workplace mediation and early dispute resolution can often provide a more constructive and faithful route through conflict without abandoning legal responsibility or organisational accountability.
The aim is not to offer simplistic answers, but to equip leaders with the clarity, confidence, and discernment needed to make sound decisions when conflict arises.
Roy Magara is an Employment Solicitor Advocate and the founder of Magara Law, a specialist employment law firm advising both employers and employees across the UK.
Roy’s work sits at the intersection of law, people, and purpose. He is regularly instructed in complex and high-stakes workplace disputes, including discrimination, whistleblowing, dismissal, and contractual claims. While he is an experienced litigator, Roy is equally committed to helping parties resolve conflict in a way that is proportionate, constructive, and relationally sustainable.
At the heart of Roy’s practice is a belief that work is not just a legal relationship, but a deeply human one. Most people spend a significant portion of their lives thinking about, talking about, and worrying about their work. Roy’s role is to bring clarity, calm, and good judgment to situations that are often emotionally charged, helping individuals and organisations navigate difficult moments with confidence and integrity.
Roy has a growing focus on mediation and early dispute resolution, particularly where parties share values, ongoing relationships, or a desire to avoid adversarial outcomes. He is passionate about the role mediation can play in resolving conflict in a way that aligns with Christian principles of wisdom, reconciliation, accountability, and peace-making without compromising legal rights or commercial realities.
Based in Bicester, Oxfordshire, Roy is married and a proud father of three daughters.
