Event Details
Serving the Lord overseas in a mission capacity can be life changing both professionally and personally. However, recent studies also show that people who work overseas may be at greater risk of mental health problems. Aside from the usual work-related stress, expatriates also face the following challenges: culture shock, language barriers, separation from family and friends, loneliness, depression, and frustrations with complicated foreign bureaucracy.
What can mission agencies do to select appropriate overseas candidates, set them up for success and support them when things get tough?
In this session ‘Mission & Mental Health’ Graham Fawcett from Thrive Worldwide will be speaking on the following:
- Core standards covering mental health in mission including the Biblical Perspective and the Theology of Suffering.
- The Role of HR and Organisational Structures
- How to select, brief and train mission workers including practical preparation for mission.
- Looking after the mental health of mission workers and their families in the field.
- Case studies and governance if a situation goes wrong.
- Signposting of resources.
There will be time for questions and discussion during the event. We will be welcoming Graham Fawcett from Thrive Worldwide as our speaker at this online event.
