A new office has been opened in Malacca, on the southwestern coast of peninsular Malaysia. Malacca was the first town in southeast Asia visited by missionaries in the 16th century, the first Chinese Bible was printed in Malacca and taken into China by missionaries, and there is a prophecy that Malacca will once again assume a prominent role in world missions. Pray for the team leaders, that they might know God’s strength, grace and wisdom in their work and for the first ever missionary from the churches in Malacca sent to the field.
The World Health Organisation recently released a report saying that HIV is now the second leading cause of death amongst youth worldwide. OM partner AIDSLink International recently hosted training in Malaysia, where 19 people from 16 nations were equipped and released to transmit hope by educating, helping and inspiring those living with HIV. “God has spoken to me about constantly examining my motives,” said a pastor present. “[He] has burdened my heart to challenge other leaders to become channels of hope and not just have ministerial titles… I thank God for giving greater clarity and significance to the ministry He has called me to.”
More than 100 Islamic studies teachers were ordered to attend a one-day seminar on the ‘threat’ of Christian proselytizing, according to The Jakarta Globe. The seminar was jointly organised by the state education department and Johor Mufti department. Pray against government-sponsored acts like this that continue to generate and spread confusion and hatred toward those who seek to share the gospel in Malaysia. Ask God to raise up His Church here and to strengthen them, sustain them and encourage them in their purpose to glorify His name. Pray that Jesus Christ would be made known.
The Mamak people of Malaysia (population 106,000) find their roots in the Tamil people of India. Mamak people value their culture and tradition but are still highly tolerant and respectful of other cultures. They enjoy talking about the glory of their past but are eager to look to the future. Pray for teams to be raised up to live and work among the Mamak. Pray for a widespread response to the Gospel and for strong local leaders and churches to emerge. Pray especially that current religious leaders would come to faith in Jesus.
