Uganda
Pray for Wakisa Ministries as they seek support to build a home for resettling young mothers who have no family to return to, asking God to provide a safe place. Pray too for young mothers being followed up after leaving the centre.
Pray for God to make a way for CMS partners to expand their discipleship work among South Sudanese young people in refugee camps in northern Uganda. Pray for this generation, who have spent half their lives living in refugee camps.
This third week, we pray for our work in Uganda, which Head of Operations Steve Wicking hopes to visit (18-24). Please pray for: - safety and good health during Steve’s trip and no travel disruptions / flight cancellations - wisdom and inspiration for country manager David - health and safety for all our sponsored children, for education to break generational cycles of poverty and disadvantage - continued development of work with children with disabilities, and vocational training.
This third week of March, we pray for our work and staff teams in Uganda. Please pray for: - wisdom for Country Manager David as he develops his role - blessing and opportunities for our sponsored children - continued effectiveness and growth in work with families affected by disability.
CMS partners Chris and Suzy Wilson work in reconciliation and peacebuilding with Christian leaders in Ethiopia, including through training church leaders in refugee camps. Pray for Chris and his colleague Simon to continue to be allowed into the camps and for more church leaders in refugee camps to have the opportunity to receive training.
Give thanks that the maternity centre at Wakisa Ministries in Uganda has now received formal licensing; pray that this recognition strengthens safe, compassionate care for vulnerable young mothers. Thank God for recent safe deliveries and for girls who have been resettled with their families; ask that these new beginnings bring peace, stability and ongoing support for both mothers and babies. Pray for provision of a larger van and an ambulance so transport for hospital visits, emergency care and daily needs is reliable. Ask for continued protection over the girls and wisdom for staff as they provide health education and vital life skills.
This week, as Christmas approaches, pray for the youngest children, born into multi-dimensional poverty, just like Jesus. Please pray for: 1) Mums and babies with inadequate shelter and clothing 2) Babies born displaced from wider communities or families which would usually support them 3) Babies born without healthcare 4) Young families fleeing persecution and targeted acts of violence 5) Child refugees trying to make sense of life in foreign lands, cultures and languages.
In December as we mark World AIDS Day (1st) and the International Day for Disability (3rd), we are praying for children at our projects struggling with particular health needs Please pray for: 1) HIV+ children at the Kadella Centre in Sri Lanka 2) HIV/AIDS-affected children at Spurgeons Academy, Kenya 3) sponsored children in Uganda and India affected by HIV/AIDS equity and justice for disabled children in poor communities 4) more advocates for disabled people including more Disability Support Groups in Uganda.
Give thanks for safe deliveries and health education classes at Wakisa Ministries in Uganda, which help vulnerable young mothers and their babies thrive. Pray for wisdom for staff as they teach vital life skills and offer counselling. Ask God to bless stories of reconciliation like Sharon’s and pray that more girls will experience healing, acceptance, and restoration through Christ. Lift up the team as they manage operational needs and seek resources to strengthen maternity care and support programmes.
On the 25th November we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Please pray for: 1)our partners’ work helping abused women in Sri Lanka 2) protection for young women and girls in all our projects 3) justice / fair legal representation for abused women and girls, especially Dalit girls in India 4) efforts to tackle cultural practices condoning domestic violence 5) greater participation for girls so their needs are seen and voices heard.
Praise God for safe deliveries at Wakisa Ministries’ maternity centre in Uganda, which serves vulnerable young mothers. Pray for the installation of electricity, completion of the placenta pit, and approval of the licence so the centre can expand its care. Give thanks for funds to build a permanent kitchen and ask for provision to complete the perimeter wall. Lift up Joyce, the new National Director, and pray for a smooth transition as Vivian moves into her new role as Strategic Adviser.
Join us in prayer for our work with girls, remembering the International Day of the Girl (11th October). Pray for: encouragement and positive change for 350+ girls attending Girls Clubs at four primary schools in Rukungiri, Uganda our partners in Malawi and Guatemala and their work mentoring girls protection and opportunities for extremely vulnerable Dalit girls at our projects in India a bright future for sponsored girls at our projects worldwide.
