Uganda

We are praying for our work in Uganda, where Head of Operations Steve Wicking is visiting. Pray for: - safe travel and good health as Steve visits Kampala and Soroti - a positive meeting for the Uganda National Board - positive meetings with Patrick and Catherine in Kampala, and Fred and David in Soroti - encouragement for sponsored children across all three centres - give thanks for the effectiveness of Disability Community Outreach and vocational training initiatives.

From the 1st to the 5th October we are praying for our work with girls, marking the International Day of the Girl (11th October). Pray for: - encouragement and positive change for 350+ girls attending new Girls Clubs at four primary schools in Rukungiri, Uganda - our partners in Malawi and Guatemala and their work mentoring girls - protection and opportunities for extremely vulnerable Dalit girls at our projects in India - skills training for Ugandan girls - a bright future for sponsored girls at our projects worldwide.

Please pray again for communities struggling with food poverty, and for our Harvest Appeal. Please pray for: - families hungry due to climate-related challenges impacting harvests, especially unpredictable rains causing floods, drought, landslides and cyclones, and those coping with extreme temperatures - families hungry because they can’t cope with cost of living increases - families hungry due to conflict and displacement - more work from international, national and local authorities to improve food security.

Please ask God to restore strength and dignity to the young girls being cared for by Wakisa Ministries in Uganda. Many have been sexually abused. Pray also for successful funding to equip the new maternity centre at Wakisa Ministries.

From 25th to 31st August we pray for our Harvest Appeal, helping to prevent hunger for children we support worldwide. Please pray for: - a positive response to the appeal - wisdom for our partners in countries affected by drivers of food poverty, especially drought in our African projects, conflict and economic instability - families struggling to provide even one meal a day - wisdom in developing work to protect against food insecurity, as well as resources to feed children where necessary.

Give thanks that young mothers at Wakisa Ministries in Uganda are enjoying their computer classes. Those new to the centre are doing the introductory module and the others are mastering their typing skills. Give thanks to God as well that in Wakisa Ministries’ Bible classes, the young mothers have been exploring the concept of forgiveness, learning about the power of letting go of resentment and embracing healing.

Pray for Wakisa Ministries in Uganda as they look to recruit gynaecologists and paediatricians to volunteer at their new health centre. Praise God for Marion, a midwife at Wakisa Ministries, who is looking to do further studies in midwifery this year. Pray that she can study well and balance her work with the requirements of her course.

Thank God that the young mothers supported by Wakisa Ministries receive individual counselling sessions. Pray that, with the help of Wakisa, they gain the skills they need to process what they have been through. Pray that God provides the finances needed by Wakisa Ministries to furnish their newly-constructed health centre with medical equipment.

Give thanks to God that young mothers supported by Wakisa Ministries are enjoying arts and crafts classes. They have made doormats, baby blankets and bags. Thank God that the young mothers have also been learning about urban gardening. They have recently planted tomatoes and spinach to use in their cooking classes.

Please pray for Wakisa Ministries as they deal with steeply rising operational costs, in particular the girls’ hospital bills. Pray for God’s provision.

Give thanks that Wakisa Ministries has found a new Director, Paula, so that Vivian can step back from some of her day-to-day duties and take on more of an ambassadorial role. Praise God for Fatuma and Nabadda from Wakisa’s sponsorship programme, who were both recently accepted into university to study Bachelor degrees in Business.

Pray for Wakisa Ministries in Uganda as they face rising operational costs and hospital bills for the girls. Pray for God's guidance and abundant provision.
