Pray for missionaries from Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau were trained online to counsel vulnerable children using Lifewords’ Pavement Project. Thank God for their dedication and enthusiasm, and for the tools to help children and their families.
Please pray for church-led charity Hope Lebedyn’s in Ukraine. It’s mission to serve those in severe need became even more vital when the war broke out. The Hope Lebedyn centre and church is being used for all kinds of aid distribution, and nothing is given out without also including a Bible or Bible resource. Give thanks for organisations like Hope Lebedyn and its mission to support and serve those who have been left devastated by the war. Praise God for how they are helping people in practical and spiritual ways.
Give thanks for Ivo*, a Lifewords Pavement Project trainer in Indonesia, who provided in-person training and certification to three workers from a partner organisation. In a city considered the most closed city in Indonesia for the gospel, where there are only two Christian churches, and where the children themselves are at risk of certain persecution, Ivo said that “the expectation of the children being blessed by Pavement Project is great.”
Give thanks for chaplains in the armed forces all over the world - for the role they have in offering pastoral care, moral guidance, and spiritual support. Praise God for how Bible resources are supporting the work of chaplains all over the world. Pray that they would be a useful tool to help chaplains support those they serve.
Pray for nine-year-old Herman* who asked Pavement Project Benjamin worked if Jesus could calm the storm in his heart. Give thanks for the healing and restoration that took place in that conversation. Pray for Herman that he would continue to be friends with Jesus, and for Benjamin as he takes God’s compassion and love to children in Indonesia. *name changed.
In Nairobi, please pray for the girls at the risk of sexual violence, especially in Niarobi’s Kibera slum. Lifewords’ Pavement Project was identified as an intervention strategy to help sexually violated girls undergo a healing process, so please pray for the team in Kenya as they work with those in this particular need. Also, in Nairobi please pray for young people in Nairobi who are struggling with identity and self-awareness. The team from Christ is the Answer Church who engaging those young people with the Bible to help tackle those issues.
Please pray for young girls in the Pokot region of Kenya, where FGM is widespread. Lifewords’ Choose Life programme is helping the girls to weigh up how to respond to the practice of FGM. In the last three years, a women’s network has rescued 60 girls who were facing FGM in their homes and are now being hosted in women’s centres while they finish school.
Please pray for the Ukrainian refugees in Poland. The Ukrainian community is really big now - in several Polish cities it is already exceeding 30% of the population. Lifewords have recently sent new Bible booklets to print, and their Bible animations have reached half a million people in just one month. Give thanks that the Bible is bringing comfort to people who have been displaced by war, and those who stayed behind to fight.
Pray for 9 year old Lara* from Angloa, who has started Pavement Project counselling. “Lara cried a lot during the session. She said she lives alone with her grandmother and feels isolated: ‘I look like a dog without an owner; I wish I had an owner.’ Pray for Lara, that she would continue to feel welcome in God’s family, and that she would find peace and healing as she grieves for her mother, and give thanks for the Pavement Project worker who is reaching young people in Angola – a new territory for Pavement Project.
Gunar Sahari, Lifewords Indonesia Director, says: “Covid numbers are rising again in Indonesia, and the number of street children in Jakarta and other cities has increased. Many children could not go to school because of financial difficulties at home, or because they couldn’t join online classes.” Please pray for young people in Indonesia, that they would be protected and cared for, and that they would be able to go to school. Pray for children who are living on the streets that they would be helped to return home or find a place of safety.
Choose Life, the interactive curriculum based on the wisdom of the Bible, empowers young people with skills to work out choices and consequences, and decide for themselves how to live. Last year the Evangelical Mission for Assistance to Fishermen (MEAP) in the Parnaíba Delta started using the programme with the children they meet through their projects. “The children shared a lot because they like to talk about their experiences,” said Deborah, one of the missionaries. Pray that as young people in Brazil connect with the Bible, that they would be agents for change in their schools, families, and communities.
