Kenya
From the 18th January, we celebrate the International Day of Education (24th) by praying for formal and informal education projects around the world. Please pray for a successful 2026 for: 1) Calcutta Emmanuel School, India, (CES) and Spurgeons Academy, Kenya - formal schools facing rising costs, staff turnover, curriculum and other challenges 2) The Graveyard Preschool in Cambodia, the Hope Centre in Syria, the GCare Centres in Patripul, the Morning Star Care Centre in Sri Lanka - all providing informal education 3) Pray for quality education for all.
This week, as Christmas approaches, pray for the youngest children, born into multi-dimensional poverty, just like Jesus. Please pray for: 1) Mums and babies with inadequate shelter and clothing 2) Babies born displaced from wider communities or families which would usually support them 3) Babies born without healthcare 4) Young families fleeing persecution and targeted acts of violence 5) Child refugees trying to make sense of life in foreign lands, cultures and languages.
In December as we mark World AIDS Day (1st) and the International Day for Disability (3rd), we are praying for children at our projects struggling with particular health needs Please pray for: 1) HIV+ children at the Kadella Centre in Sri Lanka 2) HIV/AIDS-affected children at Spurgeons Academy, Kenya 3) sponsored children in Uganda and India affected by HIV/AIDS equity and justice for disabled children in poor communities 4) more advocates for disabled people including more Disability Support Groups in Uganda.
On the 25th November we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Please pray for: 1)our partners’ work helping abused women in Sri Lanka 2) protection for young women and girls in all our projects 3) justice / fair legal representation for abused women and girls, especially Dalit girls in India 4) efforts to tackle cultural practices condoning domestic violence 5) greater participation for girls so their needs are seen and voices heard.
Please pray for Kenya, thanking the LORD for the faithfulness of the Al Massira national team/family. Please pray for the follow up to the recent Al Massira Basic Training and Train the Trainer events. For unity of purpose and for the use of the AM materials that proclaim the Gospel and build up the Church - from all nations. Please pray for the translation of the Al Massira materials into Upper and Lower Pokomo languages. For Al Massira to be used widely amongst Swahili-speaking peoples. Please pray for people resources and funding for this to come to fruition
This week we pray for Kiberia, Kenya, where our partners at Spurgeons Academy help vulnerable children access school. Please pray for the 350 children coming to school at Spurgeons every day to learn and grow. For the staff at the school as they help children in the midst of family crisis or experiencing trauma. For the teaching staff as they develop the essential skills they need to escape the poverty cycle.
Our media partner in Kenya wrote, "Our children’s programme, a result of the recent training from Reach Beyond, is about to be launched. Thirty minutes, once a week in both Kiswahili and our vernacular here. Pray for us, for apart from airing via radio, we are producing an accompanying podcast which we want to share with the young ones via smartphones." Pray for impact on the young people through this new programme.
Please pray for the authorities in Kenya to consider children’s best interests in their policy making, especially concerning orphans and those living with constant hunger. Pray for Kisumu Children as we seek to provide opportunities, sustaining strategies and help to overcome poverty.
We are thankful to God that all 105 recent young Bible Camp attenders were given a Gideon’s International New Testament and that 60 of them gave their lives to Christ and made a commitment to always follow Him. A couple also renewed their faith. Please pray for their protection and growth in an environment of much poverty and food insecurity in Kenya. Kisumu Children Trust.
Pray for Africa following Al Massira’s recent face to face gathering in Sierra Leone where 15 African nations were present. The Gospel is being shared through the AM resources in several languages. Two fruitful trainings have just taken place in Tanzania, and others in Uganda, Mozambique and another coming up in Kenya early in 2023. Pray for Holy Spirit power, courage, and wisdom for the Persecuted Church, particularly in Nigeria. May the faithful team there and across Africa know the presence, power, and peace of the King as He loves and leads them forward to advance His Kingdom across Africa!
In Nairobi, please pray for the girls at the risk of sexual violence, especially in Niarobi’s Kibera slum. Lifewords’ Pavement Project was identified as an intervention strategy to help sexually violated girls undergo a healing process, so please pray for the team in Kenya as they work with those in this particular need. Also, in Nairobi please pray for young people in Nairobi who are struggling with identity and self-awareness. The team from Christ is the Answer Church who engaging those young people with the Bible to help tackle those issues.
Please pray for young girls in the Pokot region of Kenya, where FGM is widespread. Lifewords’ Choose Life programme is helping the girls to weigh up how to respond to the practice of FGM. In the last three years, a women’s network has rescued 60 girls who were facing FGM in their homes and are now being hosted in women’s centres while they finish school.
