As Christmas approaches, praise God for Jesus! We remember those children who experience - as He did - inadequate housing and poverty. Please pray for children like twins *Percy and *Polly who are living in a tiny shack in Kibera, Kenya with their grandmother who makes and sells an illicit brew. Pray for children living across Kibera that they can get access to education and support to help them escape the cycle of poverty.
Over the next three months, four New Testaments and one Old Testament are going to be prepared for printing in Kenya. Pray for accuracy and inspiration as the Tugen, the Weera* and the Tachoni New Testaments are prepared for printing. Pray for God’s protection as the final preparation for printing goes ahead for the Upper Pokomo New Testament. Ask God to prepare the Marakwet people to meet with him, as their Old Testament begins its printing journey.
Pray for a dear Brother, one of AM’s trainers in Africa who has been sentenced in absentia to time in prison and fined for holding an unauthorised religious assembly (worship), having been closed off by the governor of the area in 2019. More hostility and false accusations and charges are being brought against God’s people in this land and more and more Church fellowships are having to close. May the LORD empower, enable, and strengthen His people in this nation, part of Jesus’ inheritance. May our dear Brother know the peace and presence of our precious Saviour with him.
Our media partner in Kenya wrote, "Our children’s programme, a result of the recent training from Reach Beyond, is about to be launched. Thirty minutes, once a week in both Kiswahili and our vernacular here. Pray for us, for apart from airing via radio, we are producing an accompanying podcast which we want to share with the young ones via smartphones." Pray for impact on the young people through this new programme.
Please pray for the authorities in Kenya to consider children’s best interests in their policy making, especially concerning orphans and those living with constant hunger. Pray for Kisumu Children as we seek to provide opportunities, sustaining strategies and help to overcome poverty.
WEC’s team in Burundi ran a conference this year to equip pastors from across East Africa to inspire and prepare their church members for cross-cultural mission. Some of the participants had travelled for several days to take part; water and electricity had not yet been connected where they were staying but they enjoyed walking together to the host church each day. Alongside Stephen and Aloys, many of those teaching were from other African organisations and NGOs, demonstrating a genuine partnership with WEC’s ACTS13 mobilising ministry.
Pray for 100 children at a new preschool in Koshe, launched by mums belonging to a self-help group funded by Global Care. The preschool gives children a basic education locally, so when they are old enough to manage the distance to formal school, they are not too far behind academically to progress. Give thanks for this wonderful outcome of the self-help group programme and pray for more life-changing outcomes to come from the 20 groups spread across the district
We are thankful to God that all 105 recent young Bible Camp attenders were given a Gideon’s International New Testament and that 60 of them gave their lives to Christ and made a commitment to always follow Him. A couple also renewed their faith. Please pray for their protection and growth in an environment of much poverty and food insecurity in Kenya. Kisumu Children Trust.
Pray for Africa following Al Massira’s recent face to face gathering in Sierra Leone where 15 African nations were present. The Gospel is being shared through the AM resources in several languages. Two fruitful trainings have just taken place in Tanzania, and others in Uganda, Mozambique and another coming up in Kenya early in 2023. Pray for Holy Spirit power, courage, and wisdom for the Persecuted Church, particularly in Nigeria. May the faithful team there and across Africa know the presence, power, and peace of the King as He loves and leads them forward to advance His Kingdom across Africa!
In Nairobi, please pray for the girls at the risk of sexual violence, especially in Niarobi’s Kibera slum. Lifewords’ Pavement Project was identified as an intervention strategy to help sexually violated girls undergo a healing process, so please pray for the team in Kenya as they work with those in this particular need. Also, in Nairobi please pray for young people in Nairobi who are struggling with identity and self-awareness. The team from Christ is the Answer Church who engaging those young people with the Bible to help tackle those issues.
Please pray for young girls in the Pokot region of Kenya, where FGM is widespread. Lifewords’ Choose Life programme is helping the girls to weigh up how to respond to the practice of FGM. In the last three years, a women’s network has rescued 60 girls who were facing FGM in their homes and are now being hosted in women’s centres while they finish school.
In the Horn of Africa four consecutive rainy seasons have failed, causing the worst drought in 40 years and threatening the lives of more than 23 million people in countries like Somalia, South Sudan and Kenya. This hunger crisis is compounded by escalating food costs caused by the conflict in Ukraine. It is estimated that one person is dying every 48 seconds from hunger across the Horn of Africa.
