A radiotherapy machine donated from a cancer centre in Wales is being installed at the Mbingo Hospital in Cameroon. Pray for negotiations with local contractors over the price of concrete as they build the bunker for the machine. The hospital also has an urgent need for a new ambulance; their old vehicle is no longer roadworthy, and once the cancer treatments are available, there will be increased demand for transport to the facility. Please pray as they ask the Lord to provide for this important need.
Radio is popular in Guinea Bissau but their infrastructure is very poor. One month after a radio partner in Guinea Bissau started to pray about increasing the broadcast coverage of their Christian station, a 'Kingdom investor' came out of the blue and asked if they had considered broadcasting into more of the country! Pray as we help the partner to investigate a reliable and cost-effective way to send their signal over large distances to the repeater towers that will be required. Pray for the many unreached people who will hear about Jesus.
Please pray that the Lord will send a new Media/ Radio Trainer to assist with the many opportunities for Christian media ministry in the Asia Pacific region. We continue to develop and expand online training but there is a need for more face-to-face contact with groups in countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. Pray the Lord will call the right people to this work.
Pray for the continued growth of the WhatsApp ministry across India. An audio devotional called FRESH is distributed in 5 languages - Tamil, Kanada, Hindi, Marati and English - and is being forwarded by many people to their friends and networks. Pray for many to follow Jesus as they listen.
Our newest workers Stewart and Anna-Claire will begin their new life in Ecuador in September. Anna-Claire is a doctor who will be providing medical care to remote indigenous Amazonian communities, and Stewart is an engineer who will be using his expertise for water and sanitation projects in remote areas of that Amazon region. Pray for a good settling-in period and for God’s provision as they set up home with their new baby. Pray for gospel impact as they serve these remote communities in the name of Jesus.
A lengthy project has just been completed with a partner radio station in Malawi to double the size of the audience who can receive the station. Radio Light reaches the Yao people, an unreached people group who are already tuning in to this Christian station in great numbers. Pray for those who listen to these programmes today, that hearts will be set on a journey to Jesus.
Our media partner in Kenya wrote, "Our children’s programme, a result of the recent training from Reach Beyond, is about to be launched. Thirty minutes, once a week in both Kiswahili and our vernacular here. Pray for us, for apart from airing via radio, we are producing an accompanying podcast which we want to share with the young ones via smartphones." Pray for impact on the young people through this new programme.
A recent evangelistic campaign by churches in the Campo de Gibraltar area had around 70 participants every Saturday. Our local Christian radio station Radio Vida went along and recorded interviews with some of those who attended, and these testimonies are being played to that part of Spain throughout the week. Ask the Lord to challenge listeners to follow Jesus themselves as they tune in.
One listener to our partner’s online radio programmes in a Central Asian country wrote: “Thanks, and cheers from a small homegroup located in ‘Y’. Your radio is the only source of getting Christian content and we love it! Amen.” Pray that many more people will discover this channel which is sharing the good news of Jesus.
Radio HCJB2 has been broadcasting creative gospel programming to the coastal city of Guayaquil and beyond for over 50 years. They have a large and growing audience, especially among 30+ women. The station is currently in competition for radio frequencies in that city and would like to retain their two current frequencies and obtain two more to expand their reach. Pray for God’s intervention with the Ecuadorian licensing authorities.
A new young couple will be travelling out to Ecuador in August to serve with Reach Beyond and are currently raising their financial support. Anna-Claire, who is a doctor, will be providing medical care to remote indigenous Amazonian communities and Stewart, who is an engineer, will be using his expertise for water and sanitation projects in remote areas of that Amazon region. Please pray for the Lord’s provision for them both.
Pray for 100 children at a new preschool in Koshe, launched by mums belonging to a self-help group funded by Global Care. The preschool gives children a basic education locally, so when they are old enough to manage the distance to formal school, they are not too far behind academically to progress. Give thanks for this wonderful outcome of the self-help group programme and pray for more life-changing outcomes to come from the 20 groups spread across the district
Pray for the team who are building meaningful relationships with people in the Middle East through social media. The Ephraim Project engages Christians worldwide to volunteer their time to befriend people from this region through English conversations online and sharing Jesus with them. Pray for God's leading as they engage in spiritual conversations, and that our team would be a source of encouragement and support during times of local unrest and a guide towards the Father’s comfort. Pray for people in areas where Internet access has recently been cut off and for their connections to be restored.
Radio HCJB in Quito, Ecuador is launching a new app for mobile phones so that their audience can listen to the radio station and to their podcasts. Pray that many will download the app to access this creative and inspiring material that will lead them closer to Jesus. One listener called José wrote, “I always listen to you when I’m driving. I think about you every day when I pass by the small HCJB sign. Pray for listeners to HCJB Radio in Ecuador who don’t know Jesus.
In one republic of the former Soviet Union, years of broadcasting Christian programmes on a secular radio station is having impact. One producer visited one of the villages recently and when he started talking to a local man, the man said, “"It's you! Are you the presenter of this programme? I recognised your voice." After a conversation the man accepted Jesus as his saviour. Then he said: “I’ll go home right now and ask my wife and children for forgiveness, because I understand that I tormented them with my alcohol addiction...” Pray that these programmes will continue to bear fruit during these troubled times.
In remote villages in Ghana, we are reaching people with the gospel by installing multi-purpose poles. These poles, using solar energy, batteries, and inverters, are lighting up dark streets at night and enabling villagers to charge their mobile phones. They also have loudspeakers for streaming Christian radio programmes and a free Wi-fi hub that contains downloadable Bibles, worship music, discipleship resources and materials on agriculture and community health. Pray that those who access these hubs will begin a journey with Christ, and that local believers will be strengthened.
The distribution of WhatsApp devotional messages in India has reached a circulation of over 38,000. Many listeners forward these messages, which are produced in 5 languages, to their own networks. Swapna is a nurse who listens in Hindi: “I received this audio message through one of the patients. Her testimony about Christ has touched me. She answered many of my questions and encouraged me to listen to the audio programmes. I am now forwarding the messages to about 10 people.” Pray that each person who listens today will hear something life changing.
A new Christian radio station is being set up in a security-sensitive African country. An FM licence has just been granted and solar powered equipment is on the way to supply the station with free electricity. The whole studio set-up has been built in such a way as to be re-locatable in case the station has to be evacuated. There have been many Jihadi attacks in this region and much of the management of this radio planting project has had to be carried out remotely. Pray for the staff and volunteers as their heart’s desire is to boldly proclaim the gospel in their country no matter what the risks are to their personal safety.
