This week we pray for our partners in Ethiopia and their progress in providing wells for women farmers. Four wells have been dug, four are underway and land has been identified for the remaining five wells. Please pray for: wisdom and energy for director Mamo and co-ordinator Solomon, for success in simultaneously managing all the different aspects of this project, with so many wells at such different stages the women and their families who will benefit, for good relationships in well collectives and for improved harvests.

Youth Skills Day (15th July) highlighted skills training for young people as key in building peaceful and prosperous communities. We give thanks for our partners worldwide and all their work helping children and young people access education and training. Pray for: more resources for those facing extra hurdles to accessing training (disability, gender, ethnicity etc), more apprenticeship opportunities for those who need them, give thanks for the Skills Training Centre in Soroti, Uganda, and pray for wisdom as we consider future development of the programme.

This week our CEO John White is visiting the Houtberg Childcare Centre, a shelter for abused and abandoned children in Zimbabwe. Please pray for: safe travelling, especially on the long drives between Harare and Chipinge (13th & 17th), wisdom in conversations about improving support for young people making the transition from the Centre to independent adulthood, give thanks for the successful partnership between Global Care and Houtberg over 25 years.

This week we pray for CEO John White, who is visiting our project in Zambia, arriving in Lusaka on Sunday 6th. Please pray for: safe journeys, especially on long drives between Solwezi and Kabompo (7th & 11th), positive meetings with a new member of staff, and with our partners’ board. good opportunities to carry out training and for this to be well received wisdom in discussions about expanding M8 school give thanks for our partners the New Life Action Foundation Trust.

This week we pray for our work at the Hope Centre in Syria. Pray for: wisdom for director Afaf and her team at the Hope Centre, encouragement for the 90+ children supported through Global Care at the Hope Centre, relief and healing from the many traumas experienced by most of the students at the centre an end to conflict, a stable peace and economic growth to reduce widespread poverty healing for broken relationships; almost all the children are living in very dysfunctional settings.

Please pray: for families impacted by a growing drug abuse problem in the community. for our team, as they challenge the cultural norms around domestic abuse. for children caught up in abusive households or drug-affected households. for our partners as they work hard to break the poverty cycle invulnerable households.

Our partners in Zimbabwe continue to give a home to children who are orphaned, abandoned or abused. We thank God for their commitment to vulnerable children. Please pray: that staff at Houtberg Childcare Centre would be able to help children recover from the trauma they have experienced. for the children living there, as they engage in education and develop skills for the future. for good crop yields, to feed the children and provide essential income for the Centre.

Please pray: for the breakdown of stigma against people with disabilities. for sponsored children with disabilities, that they would thrive in education. for our staff across Uganda, that they would be able to challenge negative attitudes to disability and identify children most in need of support. for the Disability Support Groups, who see such success in creating strong, supportive communities.

This week we pray for Zambia, where child sponsorship helps keep children in school, rather than working to put food on the table at home. Please pray: for our partners as they support the most vulnerable families. for the sponsored children as they engage in education. for the ongoing impacts of the sustained drought of last year, and particularly the impact on the cost of food.

This week is Volunteers Week. We thank God for the many volunteers that support our work. Please thank God for: for the hard work of our volunteers in our shops. for the volunteers that support our office in the UK, enabling us to do more for more vulnerable children. for our regional groups who give up their time and energy to fundraise and advocate for us. for the wisdom and commitment of our Board of Trustees.

The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is on 29 May. This week, we pray for our projects where peace is fragile or non-existent. Please pray: for Myanmar: still reeling from March’s devastating earthquake, it faces increased fighting and instability. for our work in Syria, where children traumatised by war receive therapy and care as well as education. for our partners in South Sudan, where tribal warfare throws vulnerable lives into chaos again and again.
